If you’re an unemployed youth in South Africa and passionate about working in schools, then this opportunity is for you. The 2025 Teacher Assistant Programme is now open, giving thousands a chance to gain work experience while helping educators and learners across the country.
This is part of the Presidential Youth Employment Initiative (PYEI) under the Basic Education Employment Initiative (BEEI).
Who Can Apply?
You qualify to apply if you:
- Are between 18 – 35 years old
- Are currently unemployed
- Are not studying full-time (online or physically)
- Have Grade 12 (Matric) or equivalent
- Have never worked at the same school before (You must apply to a different school if you’ve been a Teacher Assistant previously.)
Available Positions Include:
- Teacher Assistants
- General School Assistants (Handyman, Cleaner, Admin)
- Reading Champions (for literacy-focused roles)
Salary/Stipend: R4,000 – R4,500 per month
Contract Duration: 5 months
Start Date: June or July 2025 (Exact dates to be confirmed)
Work Days: Monday to Friday (school hours)
Locations: Public primary and high schools across all provinces
Important Note:
If you previously worked as a Teacher Assistant in a specific school, do NOT apply to that same school again. You will not be considered.
Instead, apply to nearby schools in your community or different areas.
