Ingredients
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1/2 lb ground sausage (optional but amazing)
- 1 small onion, diced
- 1/2 green bell pepper, diced
- 1/2 cup ketchup
- 1/2 cup BBQ sauce (smoky or spicy)
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tbsp brown sugar
- 1/2 tsp smoked paprika
- 1/4 tsp chili powder
- Salt & pepper to taste
- Brioche buns or Texas toast, for serving
- Optional: pickled jalapeños, shredded cheddar cheese, or coleslaw for topping
Instructions
- In a large skillet, brown ground beef and sausage (if using) over medium heat until fully cooked. Drain excess grease.
- Add onion and bell pepper, cook until soft (about 5 minutes).
- Stir in ketchup, BBQ sauce, Worcestershire, brown sugar, paprika, and chili powder.
- Simmer uncovered for 10–15 minutes until thickened. Taste and adjust seasoning.
- Toast buns or Texas toast, pile high with the sloppy joe mixture, and top with jalapeños, cheese, or slaw if desired.
